Chickens for eggs and meat

We are always working to keep our chickens safe and healthy.

Our Journey Into Poultry

We started with 10 layer chickens of multiple breeds in April 2019.

Sadly predators slowly reduced our flock even during the daytime. It was obvious we had to rethink the true free range lifestyle we chose for our birds for their own protection. I collected the eggs to hatch in early winter of 2019. We now have a barnyard mix flock from those original chickens we had. Since then we are moving into portable pasture units for healthier, happier birds.

Our Meat birds have given us the best chicken I have ever tasted. They are plump and juicy. Research has shown pastured chicken has more Omega 3's than conventionally raised chicken. These birds certainly like to lay in the sun on the cooler days and soak up that healthy vitamin D.

We give our birds the most humane  life possible. Open air housing along with predator protection allows them to stay healthy with no chemical intervention such as antibiotics or coccidia prevention. Conventional raised poultry almost always has the coccidia prevention as a food additive. My birds are moved to a fresh patch of grass daily to give them forage as well as keeping them clean. Their droppings in turn fertilize the ground they were on without compromising soil health. It is the most sustainable way of raising birds for both their health and the environments health. This in turn provides us with healthy food.
